Friday, April 22, 2016, MAPA Business Meeting Minutes

Call the meeting to order: 10:04 am

Next order of business is the reading of correspondence by the Secretary: Carol Johnson – none for 2016

Treasurer’s Report: Stephanie Young reported that the Silent and Live Auction brought in approx. $5500.

Audit Report: Lisa Asbury, reported they found the Treasurers documentation in order and balanced. With no discussion the report was approved.

Committee Reports:

Cathy Richards asked any committee chairpersons to come up front and give their report.

Legislative – Sherry Shamel – Scott Penman will be here at 10:30am.

Website/directory/public relations – Charli Ackerman asked that everyone continue to send her info for the website.

DMH – Cher Caudel attended quarterly DMH mtg in January. SB40 board issue with case managers by 2017. May 16-17 Conference on Aging and DD.

Awards Committee – Charli Ackerman again congratulated the PA of the Year, Ken Nolker. Also reported that the committee has nominated Debbie Gwin for the NGA Fred Gret Award and Karen Digh-Allen to the National Guardianship Award. NGA is in October 2016.

Procedures/Resource Manual – Laurie Stinnett reminded outgoing PA’s to leave the Resource Manual in their office when they leave.

APPOINTMENTS RECOGNIZE

Chaplin: Theresa Hamilin asked for continued prayer for our office and duties.

Parliamentarian: Barbara Copenhaver everything ok

NGA: Debby Lanham attended conference in Mesa in Oct. Interesting history on the Brook Aster story. Sherry Shamel was recognized with award. Rebecca Lake Wood was awarded the National Master Star award.

MO-Wings: Cher Caudel and Karen Digh-Allen attended mtgs. Proposal out for comment. MO Bar has not approved it, deciding how to break it down into parts. MO-Wings have introduced it as a bill.

MAC: Karen Dig-Allen attended their Legislative day and urged all PA’s to attend next year. Great networking to help and explain what we do. Cathy Richards was recognized with the Excellence Award for her Health Foundation program.


Probate Judges: Paula Scobey reported she met with Judge Jerry Camp and they support us and are not in favor of MO-Wings bill.


Alzheimer’s Association Liaison: Pam Fobair reported nothing really new except alz.org has a lot of resources and application for services. She thanked everyone as she lost her Mother to Alzheimer’s.


Traumatic Brain Injury: Kathy Oliver and Karen Digh-Allen attended seminar which is Free – Brain Injury of Missouri.


The next order of business was the report of the election of Regional Vice Presidents for Regions 1,3,4,6 & 9.

The next order of business was UNFINISHED BUSINESS, being none we moved on to New Business. Angie Casavecchia made a suggestion to hire an outside company to set up our conference to relieve the regions. The new President will set up a committee to research this idea more.

Linda Leabo made a motion to pay the 2017 Convention Committee $1000.00, seconded by Lois Nolan. Motion approved.

Steve Farmer made motion to renew our Attorney’s contract for the upcoming year, seconded by Barb Copenhaver. Motion approved.

Cathy again thanked Region 9 and the Convention committee for a wonderful convention. She encouraged members to participate in the legislative process. She also thanked her officers for all their help the last two years. 

She then introduced Scott Penman, our Lobbyist. He updated members on the activities of the legislative committee and where things stood at present at the Capitol.

Back to business – Election of officers – Nominations from the floor was opened. With none, David Yancy made motion to accept Nominating Slate of Officers by acclamation. Seconded and Members approved.

Installation of Officer for 2016-2018 by Current President Cathy Richards.

Ann Scarlet and Nina Long presented 3 resolutions to the assembly. (Attached Resolutions in detail)

1)     Ken Nolker – PA of the Year

2)     Appreciation for Region 9 hosting the 2016 Convention

3)     New officers

The adoption of the resolutions as presented was approved by the membership.

New President Barbara Davolt thanked Region 9 for a great convention. And we will SEE YOU ALL IN FESTUS FOR THE 2017 CONVENTION! SAFE TRAVELS HOME
With no further business the meeting adjourned at 11:06 a.m.
