Spring MAPA Board Meeting Minutes
April 19, 2016
Meeting called to order by President Cathy D. Richards at 7 p.m.
Executive officers all present as well as 7 of the regional vice presidents were present. 7 other chairpersons also present.
Credentials reported 113 Registered PA’s, 33 Deputies and Spouses was reported by Pamela Lape.
Convention report by Pamela Lape, Region 9. They have 69 vendors registered. With a net as of today of $53,138 in conference registration total.
Minutes from previous fall 2015 board meeting has be on the website for review. Steve Farmer made motion too accept, Sherry Shamel seconded. All in favor.
Treasurer’s Report given by Stephanie Young. See attached written report. She had mistakenly written the check ($10.750) for the Lobbyist out of the General Fund and was asking approval to move money from the lobby fund to the general acct to clear up this mistake. Sherry Shamel made motion to do so and Angie Casavecchia seconded. Board approved.
President Cathy Richards mentioned the 2 new PA’s and will introduce them tomorrow morning.
President Cathy gave her report for the past years activities. She attended several Regional Meeting and very proud of the presentations at these meeting. Has attended several Legislative Committee meetings as well as testified at the Capitol for our bills. Appointed committee to select new attorney. Attended NGA conference in Mesa in October. Attended CIT conference, had PA booth and explained PA role to attendees. Participated in the Ad Hoc Committee on E-Filing with the courts. PA’s are listed to have access but another committee will decide when and how much we have. Also met with FSD about children aging out of system at 18 yr old and what we need before that happens. She also announced she is running for State Representative in her area and not for Public Administrator.
Vice President Barbara reported she attended 3 regional meetings. She was involved with the DMH and legislative committee. And attended the CIT conference and Children’s division meetings also.
The vote to renew Attorney contract would come before the membership.
Lobbyist Contract to be renewed for another year.
Pam Lape brought to the attention of the Board that Lewis Co. PA was not present as he was getting married. This is not an exempt excuse so a motion by Debbie Gwin was made to return his registration fee. Seconded by Stephanie Young. Board approved. Members had various discussions about other issues they had encounter this past year. PolkCounty had a ward that had just been a part of a 20/20 news story. Angie Casavecchia commented that the Recorder his a conference planner around $1000- and would like us to consider that. She will present idea at Friday’s meeting.
